Beckham's Incredibly Charming Rose Border: A Guide to Countryside Elegance

Grace Li Jul 4, 2026 5 min read

David Beckham is known for his athletic skills, but his gardening talents shine just as brightly. He dedicates time to cultivate vegetables, flowers, and even care for chickens in his backyard. As the planting season of spring 2026 unfolds, he has introduced a new rose variety that enhances both beauty and functionality.

Victoria Beckham, his wife and a renowned fashion designer, recently posted a clip of David planting a Queen of Sweden rose bush in their garden. Nestled against a wooden fence, this bush creates a stunning visual against the stone pathways and the serene English countryside backdrop.

Rachel Bull, a gardening expert, shares her thoughts on Beckham's rose planting choices: 'The Queen of Sweden Rose from Walmart is a lovely, pale pink David Austin English shrub rose. It's not only visually stunning but also emits a delightful fragrance,' she explains.

These roses can grow as tall as five feet and spread three feet wide. Once established, they create a breathtaking display. This variety is perfect for forming a hedge or border, and as demonstrated by David, it effectively delineates different areas in your garden.

This garden fork combines a robust wooden handle with four strong tines, designed for deep digging and soil work. Its ergonomic design ensures comfort and control, making gardening tasks easier.

If your soil is hard and needs loosening, a garden fork is essential. This tool features multiple sturdy tines, available in various handle lengths.

'It's perfect for preparing garden beds, breaking up clumps, and aerating soil,' explains an expert. 'You can also use it for moving heavy materials like compost and mulch.'

For precise tasks, smaller handheld forks offer more grip, while longer-handled forks provide greater force with foot pressure.

'A sturdy fork with short, wide prongs is ideal for turning soil or mixing in compost,' notes another gardener. 'Alternatively, a thinner pronged fork is better for spreading mulch materials.'

Beckham's selected roses are among the finest for a floral border, showcasing vibrant blooms throughout the growing season without the need for replanting. Bull adds, 'The Queen of Sweden rose is a repeat bloomer, starting its display in late spring and, with regular deadheading, will continue until early winter. If you seek a beautiful boundary, this rose is perfect.'

Along with his flower choice, David's planting approach demonstrates how to successfully plant roses. 'In the video, he checks with Victoria if the hole is deep enough,' Bull points out. 'When planting a rose, the hole should be two inches deeper than the root ball height and nearly twice as wide. It looks like David nailed this.'

To replicate this success in the 2026 season, Bull suggests, 'After adding compost to the hole, cover the surface with two inches of mulch to retain moisture and curb weed growth.'

For both expert and novice gardeners, following Beckham's example can transform any simple border into a romantic and fragrant oasis. By choosing resilient, repeat-blooming varieties and understanding soil preparation basics, any garden can achieve the enchanting charm of an English countryside retreat. As the warm months approach, these diligent efforts will surely yield a stunning floral display that endures through frost.
