Empowering Young Women: Ways to Inspire and Support Them
This International Women’s Day, let’s focus on how to inspire young women in our lives. Together, we can make a meaningful impact.
The motto “Women supporting women” has been a powerful force for generations. Think back to 1920 when women united to advocate for the 19th Amendment. Fast forward to the 1970s, where we championed the Equal Rights Amendment, and today we witness movements like the Women’s March and #MeToo. We’ve always had each other’s backs, but we should aim to empower young women to become advocates from the start.
What are your favorite methods to uplift the next generation? I connected with our community to learn how they share knowledge with younger women.
GIFTING
Our Editor-in-Chief, Kathryn Tuggle, emphasizes the importance of gifting empowering items to girls. “I prefer gifts that promote self-esteem,” she shares. “As a child, I received makeup kits and tiaras, which I didn’t appreciate. Instead, I wanted Legos, microscopes, and art supplies. When selecting gifts for young women, I choose items that enhance their confidence rather than their appearance.”
Kimberly G., a teacher, suggests “sketchbooks as my go-to gifts for young girls.” She hopes to see more girls in her STEM classes, which would make her role even more fulfilling.

VOLUNTEERING
Gift-giving is just one way to share wisdom and inspire young women. Kimberlee U. leads a Girl Scouts troop, including a travel group that organizes educational trips for girls. “Girls who explore the world will grow up to be change-makers,” she expresses.
EDUCATING
Jen W. actively shares her financial knowledge with young women. “I read financial articles and discuss them with the kids,” she explains. “It’s crucial to educate ourselves about finances.” We believe in teaching personal finance at any age.
